Edwards Versus Finney: A Biblical Understanding of the Causes of Conversion and Revival

edwards v finney _ revival

Jonathan Edwards had a more biblical understanding of the causes of conversion and revival than did Charles Finney. This superior understanding showed itself in three ways. First, Edwards had a stronger orientation to the Scriptures than did Finney. Second, Edwards held a monergistic view of regeneration, in contrast to Finney’s synergistic stance. Third, Edwards had a Christological focus in his preaching, whereas Finney was more man-centered in his approach.
