In this paper, Kevin Kisler analyses Paul’s surprising employment of the substantiving use of the article (τὰ) in Philippians to define and illustrate Christ-like humility. He notes that a substantial and necessary aspect of this humility is found in the statement “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Phil. 2:4), concluding that we are warranted to understand “the things of others” as looking to or reckoning with everything that pertains to the situation of others as an act of our humility which contributes to unity.
